Ford Torino Window Cranks and Parts

Ford produced the Torino from 1968 to 1976. Although it was originally named the Fairlane during the 1968 to 1969 model year, it became the Ford Torino in 1970. Torino items such as window crank handles and parts are an important aspect of maintenance.

What window cranks fit which model years?

The Ford Torino is separated into three distinct categories.

  • Fairlane - From 1968 to 1969, the vehicle was known as the upscale Fairlane.
  • New Torino - During the 1970 to 1972 timeframe, the car became the New Torino.
  • Gran Torino - From 1973 to 1976, the name is again adjusted to become the Gran Torino.

Each of these generations, as it were, also requires its own specific body parts. For example, the window cranks for the 1970 New Torino will not fit those of the 1976 Gran Torino.

How do you remove window cranks on the Torino?

That is one factor that all trim packages of the Ford Torino have in common. The removal of Torino window crank parts is a straightforward procedure. It requires removing the horseshoe wire clip that holds the crank handle parts onto the interior crank stud. Once the clip is disengaged, the cranks handle comes away from the door.

Can just the knob be replaced on Torino cranks?

The knob is another common part thats shared between all Torino trim packages. It comes in a variety of colors, so you can match the stock OEM interior of your Ford Torino or choose another color all together. It is attached to the handle parts by another horseshoe clip.

Why wont the Torino window go down?

There could be several reasons why your Ford Torino window crank cant open or close the window. Once you have the handle parts off, take a look at the stud. Check to make sure there arent any broken splines. If the splines on the interior of the handle look worn and those on the stud look fine, then you only need to replace the crank handle parts. If any of the teeth, or gears, on the stud appear to be worn down or missing, the regulator may need to be replaced.

Why does the Fords door window glass slip off track?

If you are turning the window crank on your Torino, and the glass seems to either catch or slip off track, you may need to replace your Fords window door roller guide parts. They are the parts that hold your window in place, or on track, as your Fords regulator guides the window inside the doors panel.
