The sensor installed onto the accelerator pedal of a Chevrolet Camaro not only senses the position of the pedal itself but also signals the speed at which the driver pushes down on the gas pedal. The APP is located in front of the driver seat on the top of the pedal assembly in the interior of the car. The PCM and TAC are located on the exterior of the car cabin in the car engine compartment. This system eliminates the need for cables to be connected to the accelerator pedal and is referred to as a "drive-by-wire" system in the Camaro.
How do you replace the sensor on a Camaro pedal?The location of the sensor is usually at the top of the pedal assembly on most cars and trucks, including the Chevrolet Camaro. Begin by pushing the seat back and tilting the steering wheel up so that the seat and wheel will not be in the way while you work. Follow these steps to replace the sensor on the gas pedal of your Chevrolet:
- Locate and remove the bolts holding the accelerator pedal in place on the interior wall.
- Disconnect the clip holding the harness to the top of the assembly.
- Remove the wiring harness connected to the sensor.
- Plug the harness into the new components, and secure the harness with the clip.
- Bolt the new pedal back into place.
Replacing worn-out pads on your Chevrolet Camaro pedals requires no tools or removal of the pedal package. Begin by pulling a corner of the pad over the pedal. Repeat this process around the entire pad. To install the new pad on your Camaro, place one corner over the edge of the pedal. Repeat this process for the other corners, and note that it will take some strength to pull the last corner over the pedal and to secure it into position.
