PC100 64MB RAM de Computador

Expand the Memory Capacity in Your Computer with 64 MB of PC100 RAM

RAM, or random-access memory, is the part of a computer system that holds all data currently being used by the processor. As the amount of RAM increases, so does the number of programs and browsers that you can keep open at the same time. If you are running an older system, you can use these 64 MB modules to replace or upgrade the existing RAM of your computer.

What is PC100 memory?

PC100 is the official name for a class of synchronous dynamic random-access memory (SDRAM) modules that operate at a clock speed of 100 MHz. SDRAM refers to any type of module that is synchronized with the timing of the central processing unit (CPU). This means that it knows the exact clock cycle when the data is ready to be transmitted. Compared to previous generations of asynchronous RAM, it is capable of higher data transfer rates. These modules can be measured in several different respects, including:

  • Data bandwidth: Bandwidth measures the total amount of data that can be transferred every second. It is typically measured as the theoretical peak amount of data the card is capable of transferring, but real-world performance may be lower. The maximum data bandwidth of a 100 MHz module is approximately 533 MB per second.
  • Latency: Latency measures the delay time that occurs when the memory performs certain actions. For example, there is a slight delay between the time the module is told to access data and the time that data is available for transfer. Latency is typically measured by the number of clock cycles.
  • Error correction: Error-correcting code (ECC) can identify and correct errors in the data. Modules without this ability are labeled as non-ECC.

What determines the module's compatibility with the motherboard?

The motherboard will determine what type of module you can fit in your computer. In terms of the electronic and physical connection with the motherboard, there are two main types. Dual in-line memory modules (DIMMs) are primarily designed for desktops. Small outline dual in-line memory modules (SO-DIMMs) are about half the physical size of DIMMs. Due to their size, they are primarily designed for laptops and other systems with small form factors. Both types have different numbers of pins. PC100 DIMMs have 168 pins whereas SO-DIMMs have 144 pins. Make sure that the module will fit inside of your motherboard first.

Is PC100 compatible with other types of modules?

Compatibility with other types of modules depends on a few different factors, such as the type of motherboard you are using or the way the module was designed by the manufacturer. Unless it states otherwise, you should be able to combine different SDRAM modules together, although the system will usually run at the speed of the slowest module. PC66 and PC133 are the two other types it is potentially compatible with. PC66 and PC133 once again correspond to the speed of the module. However, it is not compatible with earlier asynchronous RAM or later DDR RAM, so you should not try to combine them together. For the sake of achieving compatibility, combine the exact same module types together.
