A fork tube acts as a connecting device that bridges the gap between the frame of your Buell motorcycle and its front wheel axle. The seal part of the device is an oil seal that keeps the fluid from leaking out of the tubes and onto other parts of the bike. The tubes of a fork are constructed of durable metal and plated in chrome. However, the seals on it are still prone to natural wear and deterioration as you ride, thanks to the elements and various debris your Buell bike may encounter. Over time, it will be necessary to check your current seals for signs of wear and remove them in preparation for replacement with new ones. One of the most obvious signs of cracks or deterioration in the fork covers is visible fork oil. If you notice that oil is no longer staying inside the fork tubes, its a sure sign of faulty fork seals. You can follow these steps to remove and replace these items.

• Youll first need to take the whole front fork apart, starting with the bolts and followed by the cap. During this step, you should drain excess oil from the tubes into a suitable container.
• The first piece you will encounter is the dust cover. You can remove this first by carefully prying it out of its recessed area, followed by the old fork seal itself. It is a good idea to clean this area of grime during this phase.
• Before you install the new sealant part, you should check this area of the fork tube, looking for any erosion that may have started the problem of fork seal failure. Clean up or otherwise repair any such issues you find, and youre ready to install the new component.
• Position the new part over the stanchion part of the tubes, and slide it into place gently. Make sure you press down firmly enough to seat the object.
• You should still have the fork clip, dirt seal, and damping rod out at this point. Now is the time to return them to their respective positions inside the tube.
