Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Motor Mounts

Thousands of moving and non-moving parts come together in your Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and work flawlessly to bring you a quiet and smooth driving experience regardless of the conditions. But if you have lately noticed that your Chevrolet Silverado truck sounds louder and vibrates more than normal, then you might be having an issue with your motor mounts.

What are Chevrolet Silverado 1500 motor mounts?

In your standard or hybrid Silverado pickup, the motor mounts are what connects your motor to the rest of the vehicle. There are a few connection points in the bottom of the engine bay where the motor mounts sit. There are some high-end models for high performance vehicles, but the majority of motor mounts consist of a solid piece of steel with a rubber sleeve attached to it. This piece of rubber provides a cushion between the motor and the frame, deafening both noise and vibration in the car. In addition to stabilizing motor movement and reducing noise and vibration, the motor mounts also keep your Silverado truck’s motor and drive-train in correct alignment.

What are the signs of worn out motor mounts?

In most Chevrolet Silverado trucks, the motor mounts will last, on average, from five to seven years. The jostling about from all the bumps and holes in the road, the natural vibrations of the motor, and even dripping fluids such as oil or coolant may wear out the rubber sleeves, which will show signs of cracking, tearing, or splitting off the motor mount entirely. Additionally, the rubber may feel spongy to the touch or disintegrate when manipulated. Once one of the motor mounts on your Silverado 1500 has gotten to the point where it needs replacement, it will put strain on the other motor mounts. This strain quickens their wear, leading to eventual failure. It also causes the transmission mounts in your pickup truck to become unduly stressed.

How do you replace Chevy motor mounts?
  • The first thing to do is check the clearance of the engine in your standard or crew cab Silverado to make sure it has proper clearance before jacking it up. Check that all hoses, lines, and wiring will clear the frame to avoid damaging parts. Then, raise the jack up to the engine using blocks of wood to increase stability. Avoid the oil pan as it cannot handle the load.
  • Next, loosen all the bolts using a ratchet with an extender piece. Get underneath your Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and loosen the mount-to-frame bolts freeing the motor from the frame.
  • Now slowly lift the motor and remove the motor mounts. Compare them with the new mounts. If everything looks good, then install them in your Silverado.
  • Thread in the mount-to-frame bolts before you lower the motor to ensure alignment of your Chevrolet model.
  • Lower the motor of your Silverado and tighten the bolts.
