The Diamondback Bicycles brand got its start as a small BMX bike manufacturer. In the 1990s, the company began selling mountain bikes and road bikes as well. eBay is the place to find reasonably priced Diamondback vintage bikes.

Vintage Diamondback bike models for sale

Many different models and sizes of old Diamondback bikes can still be found, including:

  • Silver Streak - The Diamondback Silver Streak was one of the brand’s earliest BMX bicycles. It was manufactured between 1982 and 1983. The bike sported a medium pro frame and a steel rear end.
  • Viper - The Viper was Diamondback’s second-generation BMX bike. It used the same frame as the Silver Streak, but it had different components. The Diamondback Viper that’s manufactured today is a completely different model.
  • Hot Streak - Diamondback began producing the Diamondback Hot Streak in 1985. It was a freestyle BMX bike that was designed for motocross stunt riding.
  • Super Streak - Another Diamondback bike that repurposed the Silver Streak frame model design is the Super Streak. Where Silver Streak frames were manufactured out of a common steel alloy, though, Super Streak frames were manufactured out of a chromium molybdenum steel alloy known as Chromoly.
  • Apex - The Diamondback Apex was one of the first mountain bikes Diamondback produced when the brand began branching out from BMX bikes in the early 1990s.
How do you choose the right vintage Diamondback BMX bike?

If bike restorations and repairs are something you enjoy doing, then you can feel confident buying Diamondback BMX bikes from the 1980s that need some work so long as they have a good frame. Otherwise, you should look for a bike that’s in as good condition as possible if you’re planning to ride it.

BMX bike components are important. You’ll want heavy-duty wheel rims, pegged steel axles, and sealed bearings. Many BMX bikes come without brakes, but if you’re a BMX novice, you’ll want a back brake at least.

How do you know what size Diamondback bike is right for you?

Your height is the main factor that will help you determine which bike size is right for you. You’re going to want to have a few inches between your crotch and the top tube when you’re standing flat-footed over your bike:

  • If you’re 5’-5’4”: 50-centimeter frame
  • If you’re 5’4”-5’7”: 52-centimeter frame
  • If you’re 5’7”-5’9”: 54-centimeter frame
  • If you’re 5’9”-6’: 56-centimeter frame
  • If you’re 6’-6’3”: 58-centimeter frame
  • If you’re 6’3”-6’5”: 60-centimeter frame
