Replacing a Jeep Wrangler Manual Transmission

Replacing the transmission in your Jeep Wrangler is a big project. Luckily, many low-cost Jeep Wrangler manual transmissions in new and used conditions are available on eBay at affordable prices. Here we will highlight information about the different manual transmissions used in Jeep Wrangler vehicles.

Are you looking for a NSG370 transmission?

The NSG370 manual transmission has been used in many Wranglers over the years. From 2005 to 2018, this six-speed overdrive manual transmission was available in Jeep models. It was Jeep's first six-speed manual transmission.

Sourced from Mercedes-Benz and built in the Stuttgart plant, it measures 23.5 inches in length. It's important to know that the NSG370 does not support standard gear oil for lubrication. Instead, this transmission utilizes specialized bronze collar parts that require specific lubricants.

The NSG370 Jeep Wrangler six-speed transmission is for sale in new, used, and remanufactured condition.

The New Venture Gear 3550 Jeep Wrangler five-speed manual transmission

Available in Jeep Wranglers from 2000 to 2004, the New Venture (NV) Gear 3550 was replaced by the NSG370. A 2000 Jeep Wrangler five-speed manual transmission was the replacement for the AX15 transmission in 2000.

The NV3500 is top-shifting and longitudinally-loaded. It measures 16.7 inches long and is housed in a cast aluminum case. Including its Jeep bell housing, it measures 23.1 inches.

The NV3550 spine count for the input shaft is 10 spines. There are 23 spines on the output shaft.

Suitable replacement transmissions for the NV3550 are the SM465, SM420, T18, and the NP435, though you should always check the manufacturer's site for full details

The AX15 Jeep Wrangler five-speed manual transmission

The new and used AX15 Jeep Wrangler five-speed transmission is for sale on eBay. It was used in Jeep Wranglers from 1989 to 1999. The AX15 measures 24 inches in length and has a 23-spine output. This transmission is built with the strength to handle the torque and horsepower of most V8 engines. Manufactured by Aisin Seiki company, the AX15 was used in Jeeps with an AMC 242 4.0-liter inline-6 and the AMC 258 4.2-liter. Like the NSG370, it does not support standard gear oil for lubrication.

A 1995 Jeep Wrangler five-speed transmission and a 1997 Jeep Wrangler transmission five-speed manual were manufactured with the AX15 manual transmission. Replacements can be found on eBay in used, and remanufactured condition.

Advantages of buying a remanufactured transmission

Buying a remanufactured transmission is an affordable alternative to purchasing a new transmission. And, depending on your model year, a remanufactured transmission may be as close to new condition that you can find.

Remanufactured transmissions have been extensively repaired and rebuilt to factory blueprints. The transmission is in like-new condition. Each remanufactured transmission must be certified, and it must pass tests based on factory specifications.
