Consider A Compaq Tower Desktop PC For All Your Home Computing Needs

A Compaq desktop PC is an all-in-one solution for all your home computing needs. These computers allow you to do word processing, desktop publishing, and basic internet browsing.

What components are included in a Compaq all-in-one computer?

Each PC must have certain components to function correctly. Most PCs include the following:

  • Motherboard
  • Hard drive
  • RAM
  • CPU
  • Graphics card
  • CD or DVD drive
  • Monitor
  • Keyboard and mouse
What is a tower PC?

The term tower refers to the form of the case that contains computer components. Most PC computers are manufactured in tower form. The desktop tower itself consists of a metal chassis that stands vertically. Towers can be placed on top of a desk or on the floor. An assembled tower will contain the motherboard, hard drive, optical drives, and expansion cards. It will also house the computer's Power Source Unit (PSU). Towers come in a variety of sizes depending on the use. In general, there are three sizes of desktop towers:

  • Mini tower measuring approximately 14 inches high
  • Mid tower measuring 18 inches in height
  • Full tower measuring at least 20 inches in height
Do you need additional software for office use?

If the computer does not state that there is office software already installed, you may need to consider an office software suite. If the computer does not have a hard drive, there will be no software included. In this scenario, you will need to install a hard drive and operating system. Once your operating system of choice is running you can install any software you have. Used computers that have valid Windows stickers on them may allow you to install the operating system using the machine's prior authorization code.

What are some different kinds of processors?

Intel and AMD are two separate brands of processors. Thus, the micro-architecture of the each brand's chip is built in a different way. However, both chips perform similarly for the normal range of computing tasks. When choosing which CPU to use, it is more important to look at the speed of the chip. CPU speeds are expressed in GHz. Therefore, you can expect a 3.0 GHz chip to process faster than a 2.0 GHz model. For optimal computing performance, you'll need to get the highest amount of GHz regardless of the CPU brand.

How big of a hard drive do you need?

Hard drive sizes vary greatly. Some of the common sizes in past generations are 160GB, 250GB, and 500GB. Other hard drive sizes may include 1TB and 2TB capacities. To put the size in perspective, a PC running Windows will need use up to 20GB for the operating system alone. A program like Microsoft Office will use 3GB of space. You will need to make sure your hard drive has enough space for photos, videos, games, and other programs.
