What You Should Know About Black and White Inkjet Printers

If you need to print the occasional document, school paper, or black and white picture, an inkjet printer could get the job done. Black and white printers, also called monochrome printers, can print a wide variety of projects depending on your needs. The size, toner, paper capacity, and printer speed vary by model and how you will use it.

When it comes to monochrome inkjet printers, there are two main types. They include:

• Print only: An inkjet model that only prints does not have the ability to copy, scan, or fax your documents. However, these inkjet models tend to be lighter and easier to move than their all-in-one counterparts.
• All-in-one: These printers can print your documents and have other functions that may be useful in a home office or workplace. Some all-in-one printers can make copies, scan documents, or even fax documents to other businesses or individuals.

Inkjet printers use a liquid ink to reproduce your text and images. The printer takes your data and releases microscopic droplets of ink that then soak into the paper. Liquid ink generally comes in two forms:

• Dye-based ink: This type of ink can be used to reproduce images and is generally more beneficial than pigment-based versions. However, the images can fade over time if left in the sun or when exposed to ultraviolet light.
• Pigment-based ink: This type of ink deposits small amounts of the actual pigment into the page, making it more resistant to fading.

In addition to a copier, scanner, and photo printing capabilities, different inkjet models may have many different features that you may want to consider. These features may or may not include:

• Wireless capabilities: This allows you to connect one or multiple computers using wireless technology without dealing with cables and Ethernet cords. This can help you keep your workspace clean and organized.
• LCD screen: This type of screen lets you click through your options right on your device. Some LCD screens are even touch screen, allowing you to move through the different menus quickly so that you are not holding anyone up from printing their documents.
• Paper handling: This refers to how many pages the printer can hold ready for printing at once. Some models have additional trays to hold more paper, which may be useful for printing large documents or projects.
• Duplexing: Some inkjet printers are able to print on both sides of a page. Some models may also have duplex scanning so that you do not need to turn the page over to complete your task.
• Memory card reader: Some models allow you to print from a memory card reader. This way, you do not have to connect a computer if you have a few tasks to print.
